5. - The second chapter of the book is called "the black city" referring to Chicago, just after the major fire. However, the book is titled white city.
-On page 12, the first paragraph talks of a cereal killer that has been living in Chicago.
- In Paris on the Champ de Mars, France opened the Exposition Universal, a worlds fair so big and glamorous and so exotic that visitors came away believing no exposition could surpass it.
- Talked about where the worlds fair should be held.
- The two places that argued where is should be held the most, was New York, and Chicago.
4.- Who is narrating the story?
- Lieutenant Alexander Ross said people from St. Louis would rob a church. Why did the votes matter so much a lieutenant would say something like that.
- They tallied Chicago vs. NY but what about the results for St. Louis vs. Washington D.C.?
- Why did they stop considering Washington D.C. and St. Louis as candidates to hold the worlds fair?
3.-Opulence: Wealth, riches, or affluence. (Page 3)
- Malaise: A condition of general bodily weakness or discomfort, often marking the onset of a disease. (Page 3)
- Evoked: To call up or produce (memories, feelings, etc.) (Page 17)
2.- "got a wink for pluck" (Page 16) - Idiom
- "Gas and electric lights bloomed in the dusk like moonflowers." (Page 17) - Smiley
1.- These pages were mostly about where the worlds fair would be held, and somewhat of a war of the states.
